- Ultimate Virtuality/The David Lochhead Tribute Page is an archive of essays by the late cyber theologian David Lochhead, as well as some supplementary information. Though Lochhead's passing was in 1999, the warnings and insights he offer feel current. I'm not particularly religious, but I find his writings to go beyond the religious angle. He asks questions of humanity, what makes us human and what connects us as humans. How technology will change that. His writing sometimes feels like a period piece, like something someone wrote today, with mentions of the 'FAX Machine' and recency of the Gulf War serving as window dressing to current social critique. But really, that's just what reading theorist is like sometime.
- I was a recurring visitor of this site and at some point in between March and May 2025 noticed that it had gone down. I'm not sure why it was taken down - if it was intentional or not - and have reached out to all of the contacts listed on the site to find out why. And ask if it was ever coming back. If I ever hear back, I'll update this page, but so far all I've gotten back are undeliverable emails.
- I had saved my own copies of his essays earlier this year, by sheer coincidence, and couldn't stop thinking about how easily they could have been lost, and how now other people can't find them. And then I realized that it was (almost) all saved on the WayBack Machine, which helped, but still.
- I decided to preserve it and rehost it myself to continue its accessibility and legacy, just in case.
- archive
- Every page is pulled from the Wayback Machine's most recent archive, with the additional clutter from Wayback removed. Most of it was intact and is preserved exactly as it was. All links should work properly and be internal. I'm still working on cleaning up, but overall, it should function just like the previous website.
- The exception is the David Lochhead Memorial Symposium page, which linked out to some pages which were not archived. In those cases, I have the URL go to the Wayback Machine link.
